Introduce statutory age ratings for music videos
The Government needs to introduce statutory age ratings and warnings for music videos to alert otherwise unsuspecting parents and viewers. Music videos should be studied in slow motion, sounds analysed and lyrics read for their true nature to be assessed and rated accurately.
Music videos are not regulated as films and video games are despite often being very sexual or violent and being totally unsuitable for children. Often, parents allow children to see music videos, not realising their nature, assuming that as it’s ‘just music’ it must be ok. Music video producers can create content that is sexual or violent without needing to display an age rating. We believe this puts the nation’s children at an unacceptable risk of being exposed to unsuitable content.

This isn't a new problem: read the report made by in 2010 that warned 'deaf' parliament that children were being sexualised. The report, by psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos, commissioned by the government, went ignored. Here is one recommendation:
• broadcasters are required to ensure that music videos featuring sexual posing or sexually suggestive lyrics are broadcast only after the ‘watershed’;
Here is the government's acknowledged promise...
Home Secretary Alan Johnson said: “We know that parents are concerned about the pressures their children are under at a much younger age, which is why we have already committed to a number of the recommendations in this report."
What happened Alan??? How come music videos can still be shown before the watershed no matter what their content?? No matter what you do with everything else, if you leave a loophole then the perverts can still get through!
Perhaps parliament does, in fact, have good hearing but chooses to look away. Why? Lazy, foolish, under duress or complicit? Report HERE of which, the conclusion is below...
