Artificial Grass, Fake Hedges, Plastic Flowers & NO Wildlife!

Someone has proudly posted this photo on a FB group, having just completed their project of a plastic hedge, plastic lawn, probably plastic paving pebble slabs, plastic bench (?), plastic ornament and probably plastic flowers. What is a bird, butterfly or bee supposed to do in that?! Aren't we constantly being told about declining bird and bee numbers due to concreted over and unnatural gardens? Aren't we all now supposed to be being more mindful of the quantity of plastic we buy and unrecycleable waste we create? Isn't it common knowledge that Chinese goods may well have been made by slaves? Of course, lots of people are praising this monstrous two-s up to nature, as they do. A topsy-turvy world we now live in! Whatever happened to the British?

1) Artificial lawns use lots of plastic.

2) Plastic lawns can’t be recycled.

3) Microplastics will pollute soils for centuries.

4) Plastic turf requires a lot of materials and fuel to manufacture, transport and install.

5) Fake lawns look awful after only a few years.

6) Artificial lawns kill soil life beneath it....worms, etc.

7) Fake grass will not be as enjoyable or beneficial to sit on as real grass.

8) Fake grass is devoid of nature.

9) Fake grass does not look as good as real grass.

10) Plastic lawns can become very hot in the summer.

11) Astro turf/fake lawns need to be cleaned, swept underneath and on top, etc.

12) Slipping on a fake lawn can give a friction burn.

13) Maintenance of a real lawn is cheaper.

14) Fake lawns can cause surface run off contributing to flooding.

Sat not to fake gardens! The wildlife will thank you.
