Is Body Modification Self-Hatred in the Extreme?

Isn't body-modification self-hatred in the extreme? Or is it humanity-hatred, starting with the human he's most able to destroy? This doesn't come from nowhere: it comes from dark music, violent video games, horror films and extreme pornography. This darkness is making him remove himself, bit-by-bit. Will the final act be suicide?

According to a recent study, there is a link between self-harm and body modifications:

'One hundred and nineteen of the participants admitted to cutting themselves in childhood. That’s 27 per cent of the sample – a much higher proportion than is found among the general population of Germany: 0.75 per cent.'

Only two days ago, I picked a 16yr old boy up off some stone steps after my daughter ran to alert me to him. He was dressed in black from head-to-foot with empty paracetamol packets and a wine bottle strewn around him. I took him into my home, sat him down and talked to him for over an hour. He was so thin he looked like a black widow spider, he had Satanic pendants hanging from his neck, his skin was so white and perfect it must never have seen the sun and his face was drawn and undeveloped from long-term misery and atrophy. But he was well spoken and he listened intently as I talked to him about the power of music, the dangers posed by the entertainment industry and youth culture.

I advised him to cut out all the dark and replace it with the light: beautiful music, a dog, walking, etc. I hope one day he will come back to see me and instead of seeing the dead version of the 16yr old he should have been, I will see a tall, healthy and happy young man. I've been told off by a neighbour for taking him into my home: apparently several other people asked him if he was ok and walked off when he swore at them. They forgot that a 16yr old is not going to be that quick to admit they need help: the evidence was there that he DID need help and therefore an adult shouldn't just walk off.

As our world becomes darker, we will see more extreme body destruction and we will see more corpse-like children. In my opinion, these people desperately need our help, even if they refuse to admit it.
